Walking in/Out Music - "First We Take Manhattan" by Leonard Cohen - Live London 2009 - lyrics
About the song
- "I think it means exactly what it says. It is a terrorist song. I think it's a response to terrorism. There's something about terrorism that I've always admired. The fact that there are no alibis or no compromises. That position is always very attractive. I don't like it when it's manifested on the physical plane – I don't really enjoy the terrorist activities – but Psychic Terrorism. I remember there was a great poem by Irving Layton that I once read, I'll give you a paraphrase of it. It was 'well, you guys blow up an occasional airline and kill a few children here and there', he says. 'But our terrorists, Jesus, Freud, Marx, Einstein. The whole world is still quaking.'"

- Discussion of Temple Grandin's work
- Think of Human conflict and the vast span of war we have addressed. How does all that connect with Grandin's notions - aggression as self-preservation, aggression as the protection of others, aggression to demonstrate dominance and control of others.
- Fit Grandin's ideas into the self-promotion vs self-transcendence dialectic.

Walking in/ Walkin out Music "Hiram Hubbard/Hubbert" Few contemporary people are aware of the terror that people faced in the border states of West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri during the Civil War. Here is a page that gets into the subject via a song. The walking in music is a version that Jeanie Ritchey recorded with Doc Watson. the style is true to the musical traditions of Eastern Kentucy. Below is an apparently older version with a fuller account of the story that the contemporary duo Tammerlin presents in a non-traditional style. Here are both sets of lyrics. The image is a reminder that terrorism is nothing new in the annals of war....Murder Ballad Monday
