Walking in/Walking Out Music"Hell's Bells" by AC/DC - Lyrics Here, and from Hla Oo's blog and New York Time's Reporter Dexter Filkin's account of the Second Battle of Fallujah (Iraq) 2004 - The music video is on the blog. Here is an article on the development of the video game "Six Days in Fallujah," a game which closely tracks Filkin's account of the battle in his book, The Forever War, and follows the squadron that embedded Filkins, using the soldiers names. The video game company employed many of the soldiers and did not ask Filkins for permission to adapt his account. Here is a link to the game's trailer.:

- Touching on Reaction papers - I have asked students to turn in four so far. Five are required There are four required readings/media presentations remaining. Students can choose which of these they want to cover for their fifth (and the optional sixth) reaction papers. The assignments are:
- Fog of War (Reaction paper due Oct. 20)
- Chapter four "Animal Aggression" from Temple Grandin's book Animals in Translation (Reaction paper due Nov. 10)
- The audio programs on the My Lai massacre (due date TBA)
- Chapter #1 "War is Normal" plus The chapter your group has been assigned of James Hillman's book, A Terrible Love of War.(due date TBA)

- Choose a Roots of War name for your group.

Masters of War: Bob Dylan - lyrics - Version #2 performed by Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) - This song is dedicated to the anonymous passenger who, on September 29, 1972, attempted to throw Robert McNamera from the Martha's Vineyard Ferry into Nantucket Sound (the Atlantic Ocean).

- About analytic essays.
- These are essays that emerge from observation, noticing something that is surprising, intriguing, useful, or/and important.
- Exploration - the process of examining, questioning, and surveying the observation
- Is it accurate?
- Is it demostrable?
- What is the best approach to take?
- Is research needed?
- Documentation - take notes, pursue research if needed
- Draft work - shaping the essay
- Identify central idea - thesis
- Identify information, examples, quotes etc that clarify or support the central idea
- Work up a sequence, a way to arrange the clarifying and supporting information.
- Think about what you now think after exploring the topic - this will inform the concluding paragraph(s)
- Write a draft with the central idea first followed by the sequence if clarifying and supporting paragraphs abd concluding with your concluding paragraph(s).
- Let it sit - several hours at any rate
- If possible get feedback
- Edit the draft - looking particularly for balance - this will create a prospective final draft
- Proofread carefully this will create you "word perfect" final draft
