- Elements of Style Workbook Due Today
- Reaction Paper on the Temple Grandin Chapter from Animals in Translation due Thurs. Nov. 10
- Friday,Nov. 11 is Veteran's Day. UNM will have this observance at 10:00 at the Alumni Memorial Chapel... and yes, attending this will count towards meeting the lecture/event requirement.
- Research Project Proposal Tues. Nov 15: Each student should create a one-two page research plan/bibliography. The research plan/bibliography should include 1) a brief rationale for the project 2) a series of steps to complete the project 3) a projected time table 4) a preliminary bibliography listing at least 3 sources.(5 points) I would suggest putting your bibliography citations in the format from the style manual you'll be using for your project
- Note the Alternate Format option for the Research Proposal - Presenting your research in the form of a fictitious memoir. (See the Research Project guideline page for details).
- Note that each student will be making a presentation to the class based on their research project. I will take note of these when calculating participation points.
- Our last day of class will be Wednesday Dec. 8.- Nov. 29, Dec. 1, Dec,.6 and Dec. 8 will be devoted to Terrible Love of War Panels and student presentations.
- Research Project Papers will be due on Nov. 29
- On Wednesday, Nov. 10, we will begin covering the experience and costs of soldiering with special reference to the wars that the US has prosecuted. Assignment:

- Read The Interview with Lt. Col. Grossman - here - Interview 2004 for Frontline Documentary
- The reaction papers on the documentary/interview will be due Nov.15.
- The next reading will be James Hillman's A Terrible Love of War. All students will be required to read Chapter One, "War is Normal" plus another chapter to be assigned later. Most students will find the book both intellectually and emotionally challenging so it is by no means too early to begin work on Chapter One. The reaction paper for that reading will be due around Nov.22.
